Category: Loose Leaf Tea

Our organic Assam is a robust black tea with tremendous flavor. This 2nd flush tea has a grade of FBOP (Flowery Broken Orange Pekoe). It brews up a rich coppery color with a full body, hints of malt and toast, and moderate astringency. An excellent tea to start the day with!

Cups Per Package

This tea is carefully blended and packaged by hand in a reusable tin or a resealable kraft bag. Our 4 oz. tin or kraft bag makes approximately 35 to 40 cups of tea. Our 8 oz. kraft bag makes approximately 70 to 80 cups.

Ingredients

Organic black tea (Origin: Assam, India)

Tasting Notes

Full bodied, bold, and moderately astringent, with notes of malt and toast.

How to Brew Assam Tea

Use 1 level teaspoon for every 6 oz. of water in your pot or cup. Heat water to boiling (approximately 212 degrees). Steep for 2 to 4 minutes. For best taste, do not over steep. These leaves can also handle a second or even third infusion.

We recommend preparing Assam using a teapot, tea infuser, or tea filter. These brewing methods give the tea leaves enough room to expand as the tea steeps, resulting in a richer, more flavorful cup. As a hearty, full-bodied black tea, Assam is also a great choice for making homemade chai or tea lattes.

Assam Tea Caffeine Content

Black tea contains a moderate amount of caffeine, less than half as much as coffee per cup.

Assam Tea Benefits

Black tea boosts energy, helps with focus, and is a lower-caffeine alternative to coffee.

More About Assam

Assam is a hearty black tea grown in the Assam region of India. This tea is often one of the primary components in popular breakfast blends such as English Breakfast and Irish Breakfast. While Assam can be consumed on its own for a bold, astringent cup, it’s also sturdy enough to stand up to the addition of milk and sugar. This tea brews up a dark copper color and has moderate astringency, with a full body and hints of malt and toast.

Like other types of black tea, Assam is made from the camellia sinensis tea plant. This tea is produced from the varietal camellia sinensis var. assamica, which is indigenous to the Assam region of India. This region contains growing conditions uniquely suited to the tea plant, including fertile soil and adequate rainfall each year. While tea has been consumed on a small scale in India for hundreds of years, it wasn’t until British colonization that tea began to be produced on a large scale for export. Today, the region is one of the largest exporters of tea in the world.

If you’re looking for a hearty, full-bodied black tea, our Assam is a great choice! It’s a lovely robust breakfast tea that is a good option if you’re looking to switch from tea to coffee. The tea brews up a dark copper color and has a bold flavor with moderate astringency and notes of malt, toast, and spice. While Assam can be enjoyed on its own, it stands up well to the addition of milk and sweetener, both of which soften the tea’s natural bite and complement the Assam’s full body and rich, malty flavor.
